After the U18 men's World Championship in 2023, the U18 women's World Championship in 2024, and the Men's World Championship this year, Switzerland will welcome the hockey community in 2028 to the Women's World Championship.

“Being awarded this tournament is a great honor and, at the same time, an important opportunity for women's ice hockey in Switzerland,” says Martin Baumann, CEO of Swiss Ice Hockey, expressing his delight at the decision. “Our national team is inspiring more and more people, and we hope that the 2028 Women's World Championship will spark even more public enthusiasm.”

“The 2028 Women’s World Championship is intended to be a sustainable legacy project of the currently ongoing 2026 Men’s World Championship and to carry the enthusiasm for ice hockey forward to future generations in the long term,” says Marc-Anthony Anner, OC President of the currently taking place 2026 Men’s World Championship and responsible for women’s sports at Swiss Ice Hockey, among other things.

Swiss Ice Hockey hopes that hosting the 2028 Women’s World Championship will provide a lasting boost for the future of the sport and increase the visibility of women’s ice hockey. The host cities have not yet been determined, but are expected to be announced by the IIHF Semi-Annual Congress in the fall of 2026.
