No HCAP Girls for the 2026-27 season

A bit over a month before the start of the 2026-27 season for the PostFinance Women's League, a team is dropping out. Citing a lack of players available to complete a competitive roster, HC Ambrì-Piotta has decided not to have their HCAP Girls participate this winter.

"The national market for women’s ice hockey currently features a limited pool of available players and increasing competition among clubs. In this context, it would not have been responsible, neither toward the players nor toward all the individuals and organizations involved, to proceed without the necessary athletic and organizational guarantees", as stated on their website.

This is, however, supposedly not the end of the Biancoblù's involvement in women's hockey, just the start "of a phase of reflection and rebuilding". They will set out to assess the athletic, organizational, and financial requirements necessary for a potential return to the SWHL B the next summer.

Swiss Ice Hockey informs that due to this withdrawal, each PFWL team will only play 24 games the coming regular season and that there will be no league qualification. Besides that, they note their regret regarding Ambrì-Piotta's decision and express their desire to ensure the stability of the league.
