The Swiss started well into the first period. They scored twice in the span of 72 seconds. Damian Riat and Nino Niederreiter put the Swiss on the board.
The Finns tried to get back in the game in the second period, putting 16 shots on goal, limiting the Swiss to only eight. However, the Swiss defended their net really well, and the Finns did not manage to score.
The third period saw several chances for both the Finns and the Swiss, but neither team could convert. 6:06 before the end of the game, however, the Finns got back into the game thanks to a goal by Sebastian Aho.
The Finns now took the game into their own hands and created several chances. Switzerland managed to hold on to their lead until 72 seconds before the end of the game, when the pressure became too much, and Miro Heiskanen tied the game. The two teams thus had to decide the game in overtime.
Both teams had chances in overtime, but the Finns secured the victory thanks to a goal by Artturi Lehkonen.
