The Florida Panthers have acquired Akira Schmid from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for a third-round draft pick (in 2028). As his current contract is at its end, the netminder will need a new one. As a restricted free agent, his player rights are now with Florida.

Schmid made 34 appearances for Vegas this past winter, putting up a .893 save percentage and allowing an average of 2.59 goals against per game. He was their most-used and statistically best goaltender during the regular season, but did not see any minute of ice time during the playoffs.

As for his (presumably) new team, Florida has no goalies with NHL experience under contract for the coming season, with both Sergei Bobrovsky and Daniil Tarasov being unrestricted free agents. They have $5,871,786 in cap space available.
