An out-clause in his contract allows the assistant of the Swiss national team to leave for the NHL - which he is now doing.

In February, Tommy Albelin signed an extension with the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation. His new contract included an out-clause for the NHL, which the Swede is executing by joining the New York Islanders.

In New York, a familiar face awaits Albelin - Lou Lamoriello. The Isles' General Manager held the same position with the New Jersey Devils when Albelin was part of the organization as a player and then a coach.

As for the Swiss national team, the SIHF states that the 60-year-old would be available for the 2026 Olympic Games and, depending on the Islanders' playoff success, for the World Championships until the same year - which is when his contract with Switzerland would have ended.
