The Knights needed a win in last night's Game 6 to force the Carolina Hurricanes into a Game 7. However, after only four minutes, the Knights were already down by one goal, as Taylor Hall scored for the Canes.
Vegas was not able to find the back of the net and Carolina increased their lead through a second goal by Jackson Blake late in the second period. Nikolaj Ehlers then secured the Hurricanes' victory by scoring an empty-netter with a little over a minute remaining in the game.
It is the Hurricanes second Stanley Cup title since their relocation from Hartford in 1997. They won their last title in 2006. Rod Brind'Amour, the Canes current head coach, had captained the team then.
