Negotiations between the Devils and Nico Hischier are reportedly on track

According to Pierre LeBrun (The Athletic), they have decided on the most important parts of the deal. It can, however, not be finalised before July 1, as his contract expires next season. 

As LeBrun reports, the two parties were, at least in the beginning, not on the same page regarding the length of the new deal. While the Devils wanted a long-term extension, Hischier's team was looking for a shorter term. Apparently, the two parties eventually found common ground, though. 

Hischier was drafted first overall by the Devils in 2017 and has been the team's captain since 2020. Last season, he recorded 28 goals and 38 assists in 82 games for the Devils.
