Only just yesterday, "Iltalehti" reported that Jesse Puljujärvi would be looking to join a team in the National League. His contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins had been terminated on Sunday and the Finnish newspaper mentioned that Switzerland would probably be his first choice of next place to play. Instead, he has now signed a professional tryout with the Charlotte Checkers.
The Checkers are the AHL affiliate of the defending Stanley Cup champion, the Florida Panthers. They currently sit third place in the Atlantic Division and tenth overall in the AHL, with 55 points in 44 games.
Puljujärvi's new club does not specify how long the tryout will last.
