At its general meeting, EHC Olten once again reported a significant deficit and expects to post a loss in the 2025–26 fiscal year as well. The Strategy 2030 is intended to change this in the coming years. “Our strategic goal is and remains to be in the black by 2030,” says Marc Thommen, president of EHC Olten, in an interview with the Oltner Tagblatt.
The club from Olten saw a slight increase in sponsorship revenue. Yet, it still sees room for improvement: “For example, we need to provide even better and more intensive support to our sponsors and partners. EHC Olten has a broad sponsorship base,” says Thommen. “What we lack, however, are major key sponsors who invest a substantial six-figure sum.”
The financial situation also poses a challenge from a sporting perspective. According to Thommen, the club must “scrutinize every single contract closely,” which is why, from a financial standpoint, it cannot compete with the offers made by certain rivals. “We have to find the right balance for ourselves: between affordable quality, players fans can identify with, loaned or B-license players, and the development of our own young players.”
Last but not least, the EHCO president also commented on the team’s goals for the 2026–27 season. He said there should be no repeat of the qualifying situation seen in the past two years. “With this team, we should be able to compete for fourth or fifth place and thus finish in the top half of the standings.”
