EHC Basel's Matthias Rossi and Patrick Zubler retire from professional hockey

Forward Matthias Rossi was already under contract with EHC Basel during the 2013–14 season and returned in 2024—initially on loan from the SCL Tigers and, starting this season, on a permanent contract. The 35-year-old came up through the EV Zug youth system and made his professional debut in the 2010–11 season. He subsequently played for HC Fribourg-Gottéron, EHC Biel, and the SCL Tigers. He played in 559 NL games (including playoffs) and recorded 171 points. In addition, he played in 178 games (including playoffs) and scored 91 points in the Swiss League

Defenseman Patrick Zubler spent a large part of his career in the Swiss League. Like Rossi, the 34-year-old also came up through the EVZ youth system and made his professional debut in the 2010–11 season. He played 48 NL games for the EVZ (no points). In 2013, he moved to HC La Chaux-de-Fonds and finally to EHC Basel in 2021, which at that time was still playing in the MyHockey League (then known as the MySports League). In total, he played 600 SL games (including playoffs) and recorded 203 points. 

As announced by EHC Basel, both players will be honored during a home game next season.
