Earlier today, Genève-Servette HC informed about the signing of Derick Brassard. The veteran forward retired from hockey in 2024 after suffering a serious ankle injury the year prior, but now has decided to return to professional play. Equipped with a contract until the end of the season, he is available to the Grenats right away.
"The club is delighted to have found the ideal solution in Derick", team manager Marc Gautschi notes. "Thanks to his high hockey IQ and reliable playstyle, he will be able to help the team immediately. Beyond his impressive statistics and career, his strong leadership will be a major asset both on the ice and in the locker room, helping the team achieve its ambitious goals."
Drafted sixth overall in 2006 by the Columbus Blue Jackets, Brassard made the jump to the NHL in 2007. Over the years, he played for various organizations; his most notable stretch was probably with the New York Rangers. As part of them, he reached the Stanley Cup final. In total, Brassard played 1131 games in the NHL, recording 240 goals and 373 assists. Internationally, the Canadian won the gold medal at the 2016 World Championship.
"I am really happy to be able to play hockey again", Brassard states. "I feel good here in Geneva, and I thank Marc and the organization for the opportunity. I know I can help the team, and I look forward to wearing the Grenat jersey in front of the fans."
With his new team, the 38-year-old will wear the number 18.
