As anticipated by "Blick", the 35-year-old captain, Patrick Geering, and the 37-year-old Yannick Weber have agreed on a new one-year deal, binding them to the ZSC Lions until the spring of 2027. For his part, Dean Kukan has put his signature on an early extension: the 32-year-old will stay in Zurich for two additional seasons, bringing the expiration date of his contract to the end of the 2028-29 season.
Team manager Sven Leuenberger highlights the different strengths of each of them: "Patrick is a very reliable defenseman who reads the game well and always plays at his best in the playoffs. Yannick is one of the best defenders in Switzerland. He plays hard, he can help us on offense, and he has a great shot. In terms of physical condition and professional attitude, he is a role model for our young players. Finally, Dean is one of the top defenders in this league and one of the best skaters in Switzerland. His strong first passes are just as valuable as his versatility in power play and box play."
Geering, Weber, and Kukan are the three most used Swiss defenders in the Lions' roster this season so far, averaging 17 to "20 minutes" on the ice per game. Weber and Kukan have collected four points each, while Geering is yet to appear on the scoresheet.
