Signed to a deal valid for the coming season back in April, the 33-year-old Canadian has decided to back out and stay in his home country due to family reasons.

The SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers have to go on the hunt for another import. Canadian forward Mike Sgarbossa, who was supposed to join them for the coming season, informed the National League club that he would not be doing so due to personal reasons. Instead, he has decided to remain in his home country, Canada. The Lakers are accepting this decision and have terminated the contract.

The forward was supposed to join the Lakers after playing for HC Lugano and SC Bern (on loan) this past winter. His original deal with the Bianconeri(valid until 202) was voided in February, which made the move to the Lakers possible in the first place. In 40 games this season, Sgarbossa recorded 32 points.

With him gone (or never there in the first place), Rapperswil-Jona has "just" five imports on their roster. An additional one is being looked for.
