The 59-year-old Canadian was supposed to coach the team until 2025. Lars Leuenberger has now replaced him.

Asked by "Le Matin" after HC Fribourg-Gottéron's announcement why they decided to relieve Patrick Emond of his duties now, Gerd Zenhäusern, team manager of the Dragons, had this to say: "There were times during the season when things got better, but every time we took a step forward, we took another step back just afterwards. Right now, I felt that the team was no longer moving forward."

Lars Leuenberger will take on Emond's duties effective immediately and thus also coach the team at the Spengler Cup. He will lead the team until the end of the current season, as Roger Rönnberg will coach the team next season.
