"Dear fans, I have been thinking about my future for some time now. I went back and forth. Now I have decided that the current season is my last. We've had a lot of really great, cool times together," Andres Ambühl said in a video to the fans. "Now we're going full throttle once again - we on the ice and you in the stands, so that we can experience another great moment with your fantastic support.”
Andres Ambühl, elected eighth times as the Most Popular Player of the National League by fans, will have played 24 seasons in the highest Swiss league once he plays his last game this spring. The forward currently sits at 1305 National League games (35 more than the previous record holder Beat Gerber). It is not the only record he holds: "Most National League Games Played in the Regular Season" as well as several on the international level (Most Games Played at World Championships, participation record).
Whether he will play in the World Championship this May and end his career after is not yet clear. If he were to join the national team, it would be his 20th participation at the Worlds.
The captain of HC Davos has recorded over 700 points in the 1305 games he played. He won five titles with HC Davos, one with the ZSC Lions and also won two silver medals with the national team. Except for three seasons with the ZSC Lions and one in the AHL, he has only ever played for HC Davos. This season, he has put up one goal and eleven assists in 43 games.
