National League

Last Tuesday, the forward joined the exclusive club of players with 1000 or more games played in the National League.

Marc Wieser's road to 1000 games started on November 15, 2005, against the ZSC Lions, and, almost as if it was set up by fate, it concluded on Tuesday against the same opponent, close to 20 years later. Most of the appearances have been for HC Davos, 170 were in EHC Biel's jersey.

"When Christian Wohlwend came to Davos as head coach, every HCD player had a meeting with him", Wieser is cited on his club's website. "He wanted to know what my personal goals were for the next few years. At the time, I wrote down that I wanted to play 1000 games in the National League, among other things. But that was still so far away; I did not believe that I would achieve this goal."

Already having announced his retirement after the current season, it remains to be seen how high his final total will turn out to be - with yesterday's game, it already stands at 1001.
