From one capital to another, from the Polar Bears to the Bears, no more "li" - there are many ways to set this up to say that Serge Aubin, formerly head coach of the Eisbären Berlin, is now part of SC Bern. He signed a three-year deal with them.
Aubin comes off an underwhelming season with a very successful end in Berlin. The Eisbären only held sixth place after 52 games, but went on to win their third straight DEL title (and fifth in six years).
"With Serge Aubin, we have been able to realize the solution we have long sought. He brings extensive experience and a proven track record as a coach and former top player", Sports Director Martin Plüss states. "Over the years, he has demonstrated his ability to successfully develop teams and consistently lead them at a high level. In addition, he has consistently shown a knack for nurturing young players in a targeted and sustainable manner."
Bern will be the second coaching job in the National League for the 51-year-old. His last one was with the ZSC Lions, where he was replaced halfway through his first season. As a player, he spent six years in the country.
"After several successful years in Germany, I am very much looking forward to returning to Switzerland and taking on this new role with SC Bern", Aubin himself comments. "The club has a rich tradition and sets high standards, which really motivates me. Together, we want to bring joy to our fans through hard work and determination."
