This week has been filled with some drama surrounding Patrick Fischer. On Monday, the head coach of the Swiss national team admitted that he had faked his COVID certificate required for the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. Swiss Ice Hockey has now announced that Fischer is relieved of his duties. He is being replaced early by his successor and current assistant, Jan Cadieux.

"SRF" had confronted Fischer and the SIHF on Monday regarding the matter after their investigation revealed a conviction for document forgery. The 50-year-old then posted a video, making the matter public.

"The case is legally closed, but it has sparked a public debate about values and trust, which the association takes very seriously. Trust and integrity are central to our sport and our association", SIHF president Urs Kessler states. "In hindsight, our initial assessment—that the matter was closed—was insufficient. This is about values and respect, which are central to Swiss Ice Hockey and which Patrick Fischer failed to uphold in 2022. The association regrets that it did not give this aspect sufficient consideration in its initial assessment."
