While the full schedule of the 2027 IIHF World Championship will be released in September, it is already clear who will play the opening game of the tournament.

Host Germany will face Switzerland on Thursday, May 13, in the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen. The arena has a capacity of 61,574. It is the home turf of FC Schalke 04. The Swiss fan sectors for the game will be in sections V and W.
Starting Thursday, July 16, 12:00, tickets for the opener, as well as VIP venue tickets, gameday tickets for the quarterfinals, and final round tickets (semifinals, including bronze and gold medal game), can be bought.
