Switzerland got into the game fast, making it 1-0 40 seconds into the first period thanks to a goal by Attilio Biasca. Ken Jäger increased the national team's lead three minutes later. The rest of the period was balanced in terms of chances, but no team was able to convert on them.

The first half of the period saw chances for both teams, but then Aleksander Barkov eliminated Switzerland's lead within three minutes in the second period, scoring in the 33th minute and the 36th minute of play.

The Finns came out stronger in the third period and controlled the game for most of the period, but they did not manage to score. The Swiss then went on a powerplay with four minutes to go in the game and Ken Jäger scored the third goal of the night and the game-winner, making it 3-2 Switzerland. Nico Hischier finished it off with an empty-netter in the 59th minute of play.

The Swiss will face another Nordic country in the quarterfinals. Sweden finished fourth in Group B and will thus be Switzerland's opponent.
