Extension or not? - Patrick Fischer has time to decide until the end of 2025

Lars Weibel has reportedly asked Patrick Fischer to decide about his future by the end of the year. Fischer's contract as head coach of the national team is set to expire at the end of the 2025-26 season, but Fischer had thus far preferred to focus on the Olympics and the home World Championship rather than already deciding about his future.

According to Zaugg, if Fischer were to opt for not signing an extension, Weibel has already found his successor in Jan Cadieux, who is currently working as the head coach of the U20.

Langnau's Thierry Paterlini was also a candidate to succeed Patrick Fischer at one point. His contract, which runs until 2027, includes an out clause in the event of an appointment to the national team. However, Weibel did not want to strain the already thin relationship between the SIHF and the National League.
