The IIHF has announced the nominees for the IIHF Male Player of the Year award. Two Swiss representatives are among them, Denis Malgin and Sven Andrighetto. As members of the ZSC Lions, they both won the Swiss championship and the Champions Hockey League, and, as part of the Swiss national team, they went all the way to the 2025 World Championship final just under two weeks ago, securing a silver medal.
Four other candidates are also up for the award. David Pastrnak (Boston Bruins, Czechia) finished Worlds with the most points and was named best forward of the tournament, in addition to coming in third in the NHL regular season in points. His teammate on the Bruins, Jeremy Swayman, backstopped the US to the gold medal in Stockholm.
Clayton Keller was the captain of the US team, securing their first Worlds-victory since 1933. In ten games, he collected as many points while leading his NHL squad, the Utah Mammoth, with 90 points last season.
Last, but not least, Canada's Nathan MacKinnon was third in scoring at the World Championship and second during the NHL regular season as a member of the Colorado Avalanche.
