Kärpät hires former Biel-coach Petri Matikainen

A month ago, Petri Matikainen and EHC Biel dissolved their contract, which would have lasted until the end of April. He had already been released from his duties as head coach in February of last year. It did not take long for him to be hired somewhere else - Oulun Kärpät has acquired his services for the remainder of their season.

The Liiga-team currently sits in position 14 of 16, with five games left to go. Only two points separate them from being relegated at the moment, but they also have the same amount of points as the twelfth-placed Lathi Pelicans, who hold a playoff spot.
