The captain of the New Jersey Devils has been skating on his own again but is unlikely to return to the lineup soon.

The Devils placed Nico Hischier retroactively to January 25 on injured reserve. While the forward is healthy enough to skate, head coach Sheldon Keefe thinks that Hischier will likely not be ready before the NHL resumes play after the 4 Nations Face-Off on February 22.
Hischier has been dealing with an undisclosed injury he suffered in the game against the Montreal Canadiens.
