Will former Oilers defender Ryan Whitney move to Switzerland?

RUMOR - After being released from the St.Louis Blues' training camp tryout, the 31-year-old American defender Ryan Whitney seems to consider some European contract offers, including from Switzerland.

Whitney has appeared in seven games with the Panthers last season before he was reassigned to the AHL's San Antonio Rampage, where he recorded 23 points (7 goals, 16 assists) in 45 games.

So far, the native of Boston has played in 519 NHL games over nine seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins (2005-09), Anaheim Ducks (2009-10), Edmonton Oilers (2010-13) and the Florida Panthers (2013-14), scoring a total of 273 points.
