As Ville Leino's agent Simo Niiranen tells the Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat, there are alternatives in Europe, after Leino's try-out with the Boston Bruins did not work out: "I don't know yet where he'll end up. But let's just say that there are alternatives, particularly in Switzerland and the KHL."

After Leino left Jokerit Helsinki in 2008, he played in the NHL for the Detroit Red Wings, the Philadelphia Flyers, and the Buffalo Sabres. All in all, the 30-year-old forward completed a total of 323 games in the NHL and registered 147 points (50 goals, 97 assists).
