Just yesterday, Almond cleared waivers and was assigned to Minnesota's AHL-affiliate, the Iowa Wild. The decision whether to play in Iowa or to return to Geneva was expected within 24 hours from that moment on. With Genève-Servette HC, he would have a running contract until the end of the 2018-19 season.
Today, the 24-year-old forward thanked his fans in on Twitter and said that he is not yet sure about his professional future and that he will take his decision one day at the time, meaning that he has not yet decided where he will play from now on.
His decision-making already seems to have come to an end tonight, as Almond has decided to start the year with the Wild's affiliate Iowa Wild in the AHL, hoping for a future chance to play in the NHL.
If he will get the chance to make his NHL comeback with the Minnesota Wild on day is not yet sure. According to the same source, the club is thinking about a possible trade of Almond, in exchange for a draft pick.
Cody Almond will start year w/ @IAWild vs. returning to Geneva. Hoping for chance to play in #NHL. #mnwild talking trade, wants pick back
