Diaz has been assigned to Hartford by the New York Rangers on Saturday, after he cleared waivers without being claimed by another NHL-team. The 29-year-old defender is in possession of a one-way contract, meaning that he would earn the full NHL-salary of $700,000 even if he is playing in the AHL.
As his player agent Daniel Giger recently revealed, Diaz prefers a return to Europe - either the Swiss NLA or the KHL - to playing AHL-hockey. EV Zug is following the events with keen interest, as the Swiss-Spanish still has a year left on his contract with the Bulls, and therefore would not have to negotiate a new deal. (rlu)
Raphael Diaz will report to Hartford, but his camp plans to ask for a release if he isn't back in the #NHL within one month. #NYR #EVZug
