NHL - Two young hockey players with ties to Swiss hockey have achieved something today that many boys around the world dream about: they have been drafted by an NHL team in the first round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft in Philadelphia.

Danish forward Nikolaj Ehlers (Halifax Moosehead), 18, has been selected 9th overall by the Winnipeg Jets, whereas Swiss international Kevin Fiala, 17, (HV71 Janköping) has been drafted by the Nashville Predators with the 11th pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft in Philadelphia.

Nikolaj Ehlers joined the Halifax Moosehead from EHC Biel in summer 2013. He had an outstanding year with the team in the QMJHL, scoring 104 points in 63 regular season games and then adding to that in the postseason (28 points in 16 games).

Kevin Fiala on the other hand has just come off a very special season for him as well, a season which saw him getting called up to the first team of HV71 and earning a spot in their lineup (17 points in 25 games), as well as participations in three different World Championships. A fact that surley helped him to raise from a projected third round selection to a now first round pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

As for the top three players of this year's draft, they are Aaron Ekblad (Florida Panthers), Sam Reinhart (Buffalo Sabres) and Leon Draisaitl (Edmonton Oilers) The rest of the first round selection can be found here:
