Valentin Wirz decided to put an end to his professional career

"I needed some time to take my decision but once I had this opportunity I didn't hesitate. I felt that this was the right moment", the 32-year-old told Planète Hockey.

The former HCFG junior player spent his first six NLA seasons with the Dragons before moving to HC Lugano in 2005, where he could celebrate a Swiss Championship title in his first season with the Bianconeri.

In 2008, the forward returned to Fribourg for three years before playing the past three seasons in the NLB with HC Sierre, Lausanne HC and HC Red Ice.

Wirz, who registered a total of 75 goals and 121 assists in 461 NLA games, intends to keep himself in shape and continue his education to be a hockey referee that he started two years ago.
