The 24-year-old Mayer has been looked at by several teams as a possible signing for the next season. The netminder, who played for the Hamilton Bulldogs in the AHL for the last four seasons, now seems to have made the decision to return to Switzerland and join Genève-Servette HC. He and Christophe Bays will form the Grenats' goaltender duo next season.
Young goalie talent Melvin Nyffeler, who had signed a three-year contract with GSHC at the end of January, thus leaves the club and joins HC Fribourg-Gottéron, according to Kessler. The 19-year-old would share his crease with Benjamin Conz.
However, as journalist François Rossier (La Liberté) reports on Twitter, HCFG's head coach Hans Kossmann denies the addition of Nyffeler: "This is merely a rumor, but he is an interesting goaltender. I will call Chris [McSorley]."
