Marcel Jenni's farewell letter reads as follows:
"After 23 years as a pro the time has come to bid farewell. I'm looking back on a physically and emotionally intense time. There were many beautiful moments, but also many moments of disappointment and grief. I'm very thankful for the time in that I was able to bring my passion to clubs with a rich tradition such as HC Lugano, Färjestad BK, and also the Kloten Flyers. The last ten years with the Kloten Flyers were probably the most difficult but also the most instructive of my career. Many ups and downs and difficult circumstances have characterised this time - but also an enormous team spirit among the boys and a great support from the fans. I can proudly say that I've always given my best and fought with heart and soul. Often I had difficulties to see my own limits; too often I've crossed them. The accident last October has put an abrupt end to my career as a hockey player. I had to accept that my physical well-being does not allow me to return to the ice. It was a long and painful process. But it's not a tragic leaving because I was allowed to play until 40 with total commitment. Right now, it's all about recuperating and regaining my strength so that I can start my new job. I'm already looking forward to getting back on the ice as a coach and to live my whole experience and my vision of modern ice hockey. My love for ice hockey is still vital and now is the time to start a new chapter.
I'd like to say thank you to all the fans for their loyal support over the course of all these years. I'm looking forward to saying good-bye to you at the game between the Kloten Flyers and HC Lugano on October 2, 2015.
Thanks to all of you! It was great with you!
Marcel Jenni."
