The Slovakian defenseman Jan Tabacek joined the ZSC Lions already in their training camp last week on a try-out basis. There, he was able to convince coach Marc Crawford who sees the 33-year-old as a safeguard in the defensive department: "Last year we lost McCarthy, Stoffel and Blindenbacher during the playoffs," ZSC's coach remembers in an interview with the Tages Anzeiger. "We have to be prepared for possible injuries".
Another personnel issue that the ZSC Lions could solve soon is Marc Crawford's own contract. The 53-year-old coach returned to Vancouver for a couple of days during the Olympic break to see his family and discuss his future in Zurich. According to team manager Edgar Salis, the chances for a contract extension with Crawford have increased since then. He hopes that an agreement can be found before the the playoffs start.
