GM Miroslav Satan has selected the 16 players for Team Europe's inital roster for the World Cup of Hockey, among them two Swiss players. The tournament will be held in Toronto from September 17 to October 1, 2016.

Defensemen Roman Josi, who was an All-Star this season, and Mark Streit will represent Switzerland in Team Europe. Players of seven different nations have been selected to play for the team that will be coached by Ralph Krueger. Their final roster, which will consist out of 23 players, has to be announced by June 1. The preliminary roster reads as follows:

Goaltender (2): Frederik Andersen (Anaheim Ducks, DNK), Jaroslav Halak (New York Islanders, SVK).

Defensemen (5): Zdeno Chara (Bosten Bruins, SVK), Dennis Seidenberg Boston Bruins, GER), Roman Josi (Nashville Predators, SUI), Mark Streit (Philadelphia Flyers, SUI), Andrej Sekera (Edmonton Oilers, SVK).

Forwards (9): Mikkel Boedker (Colorado Avalanche, DNK), Leon Draisaitl (Edmonton Oilers, GER), Jannik Hansen (Vancouver Canucks, DEN), Marian Hossa (Chicago Blackhawks, SVK), Anze Kopitar (L.A. Kings, SLO), Frans Nielsen (New York Islanders, DNK), Tomas Tatar (Detroit Red Wings, SVK), Thomas Vanek (Minnesota Wild, AUT), Mats Zuccarello (New York Rangers, NOR).
