NLA - The Federal Court decided on Wednesday that the structure plan which was provided by Zurich's authorities was not the right instrument to adapt the "Kulturlandintiative" and urged them to actually implement the initiative.

As the Tages Anzeiger reports, this is in so far relevant to the ZSC Lions interest, as the arena they plan in Altstetten would be built on ground that is currently still considered cultivated land, thus it cannot be built on it. After the initiative had been adopted on June 17 in 2012, a moratorium was imposed, preventing municipalities to create new building zones. This now remains in force for the time being.

The construction of the arena, which had already been postponed by ZSC Lions' CEO Peter Zahner once before due to the uncertainty about the scope of initiative, thus remains in jeopardy. As the ZSC's media spokesperson Roger Gemperle told the Tages Anzeiger on request, the decision of the Federal Court was "certainly not positive" for the Lions. However, they will now first further analyse the situation and await the Federal Court's instructions for the canton. (mso)
