As the Tages Anzeiger reports, defenseman Jan Tabacek has joined the ZSC Lions on a try-out basis during their training camp. The 33-year-old offensive-minded defenseman could become ZSC’s fifth import-player. If the Lions are going to sign him, he would be expected to act as a safeguard for the injury-prone Steve McCarthy.
After playing for HC Kosice in 2012, where Tabacek scored 132 points over four seasons (30 goals and 102 assists), he wasn’t able to keep up with these numbers anymore. Most recently, he played for Tappara Tampere in the Finnish Liiga where he scored seven points in 39 games.
