WOMEN'S LEAGUE

In the Swiss Women’s Hockey League, there will be an exciting and tight battle for the top spots. The Neuchâtel Hockey Academy remains unbeaten after six games and, this weekend, EV BOMO Thun beat the HC Lugano Ladies.

For three years, EV BOMO Thun did not manage to win against the dominant Lugano and for eleven times in a row, Lugano could leave the ice victoriously. On Sunday, however, this winning streak ended for the decimated Bianconere, which also dismissed their goaltender Sasha Ronchi this week due to disciplinary reasons and replaced her with the inexperienced Daria Tognacca from GDT Bellinzona’s youth team. The Finn Linda Oesterlund and Jana Gerber scored two goals each and were responsible for the surprising 4-2 victory for BOMO.

The Neuchâtel Hockey Academy remains the leader of the SWHL A. They beat BOMO Thun on the road 5-3 and did not show any weakness in their home game against Weinfelden and clinched a 7-1 victory. The ZSC Lions, last year’s champion, are chasing a new scoring record. Their latest victim was the SC Reinach, which had to accept a 1-24 loss. However, the Lions will face their next challenge this coming weekend. They will play against the ambitious BOMO Thun on the road before playing at home against HC Lugano, against which they had to accept the first loss of the season.

SWHL A, Results: BOMO Thun – Neuchâtel Hockey Academy 3-5 (0-3, 2-0, 1-2). SC Reinach – HC Lugano 0-15 (0-6, 0-3, 0-6). HC Lugano – EV BOMO Thun 2-4 (1-1, 0-2, 1-1). ZSC Lions – Reinach 24-1 (8-1, 7-1, 9-0). Neuchâtel Hockey Academy – SC Weinfelden 7-1 (3-0, 1-1, 3-0).
