The addition of these two veteran players has become necessary due to a shortage of defensemen, as several sustained injuries. According to Aaron Portzline (The Columbus Dispatch), Dean Kukan will see some action tomorrow, whereas Heatherington will be in tonight and serve as Captain of the rookies.
Kukan will thus join fellow Swiss Calvin Thürkauf, who is also part of the Blue Jackets' roster. The Swiss international played eight games for CBJ last season and won the Calder Cup with their AHL affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters.
