The club had hoped to be a lot less in the red this season but various factors led to the deficit.

"The loss is about twice as high as we had hoped," Rolf Löhrer, president of the Board of Directors and majority shareholder, told Der Landbote. They had expected a loss, especially since they had opted for a new strategy this season: the budgeted expenditure was a good one million francs higher than the amount generated in the previous year and came to CHF 2.7 million.

As for the reasons for the deficit (around CHF 750,000), it mostly comes down to advertising revenue, as they have not generated as much as they wanted. Also, their ticketing did not as well as expected. However, they already have sold all their advertising space for next season and also expect a larger audience. If everything goes according to their plans, EHC Winterthur should thus be able to cut their deficit next season.
