It had already been clear that the goaltender would not play for HC Lugano in the 2024-25 season, but it now seems like he will hang up his skates altogether.

Several sources have told Finnish news outlet Iltalehti that Mikko Koskinen will retire from professional hockey. There were some rumblings that he might mind the net for Kiekko-Espoo next season, but things have now supposedly changed.

The 35-year-old goaltender has been with HC Lugano since the 2022-23 season. When Lugano announced the signing of Joren van Pottelberghe in November 2023, they also disclosed that they would not extend a contract offer to Koskinen. This season, the Finn appeared in 28 regular-season games, posting a .900 save percentage.
