Rumor

We've already heard a lot of speculation about the future of Damien Brunner - now another chapter opens: According to the "Neue Luzerner Zeitung", Kloten is interested in his return.

Still waiting for an offer from the NHL, Damien Brunner's near future seems to manifest itself in cozy little Switzerland than in North America. His possible return to the Swiss League, or to be more precise: to his former club EV Zug, was being discussed in several media.

Now, the "Neue Luzerner Zeitung" add a new, spectacular chapter to all the rumors going around: Apparently, Brunner and EVZ haven't yet agreed on a new contract - a difference of 20,000 Swiss Francs seems to be the problem. But that's not the spectacular part yet. The "NLZ" also writes, that the Kloten Flyers are courting Damien Brunner.

And this would be spectacular and absurd all together. The Kloten Flyers had to deal with a deficit of CHF 5.5 mio after the last season - for this season another deficit of CHF 5 mio is budgeted. But of course, Philippe Gaydoul could pay Brunner out of his own pocket.

Furthermore, Kloten traded Brunner during the season 2008-09 to Zug, believing that Brunner will be no longer of any use for them and totally underestimating his abilities. Will Brunner now return to prove them wrong once and for all?

The question arises if Brunner actually should start the season in Switzerland, knowing that the slightest injury could bury all his hopes of a return to the NHL in the near future. Of course, the chances to obtain an NHL-contract have diminished over time, but there is still hope for Brunner to get his foot in the door.

Only thing to say at the moment: to be continued...
