Under contract with the Calgary Flames for the last three years, the 29-year-old defenseman is now an unrestricted free agent and has not yet found a new home for next season. As Kessler reports, the Lions are out to change that fact.
Smith has played most of his professional career in the AHL, scoring 168 points (41 goals, 127 assists) in 311 games for the Binghamton Senators and the Abbotsford Heat. However, he played his fair share of NHL games with the Ottawa Senators and the Calgary Flames, putting up 14 points (two goals. twelve assists) in 94 games.
