Spengler Cup

SPENGLER CUP - Since defending Champion Genève-Servette HC has decided to not take part at this year's Spengler Cup, the quest for a second Swiss participant has begun. As the Tages Anzeiger reports, also the ZSC Lions are not interested.

Like GSHC, the ZSC Lions claim that the participation in three different formats in one and the same season (Swiss Championship, Swiss Ice Hockey Cup, Champions Hockey League) would leave only little room for other competitions. Furthermore, several U20-players of the team are supposed to suit up for the Swiss national team in this period of time.

Three of the six participants (HC Davos, Team Canada, Adler Mannheim) for the 2015 edition of the Spengler Cup are known so far. As CEO Fredi Pargätzi announces, he is confident to name the complete starting field until the end of the month. In addition to a second Swiss team, there might be also at least one Russian participant. (rlu)
