The 19-year-old defenseman had not figured on the list of John Fust's selection for the 2015 IIHF U20 World Championship. However, that was probably mostly due to the fact that Müller has shown a solid performance so far for the Sharks and it was not clear if they would allow the rookie to play in the World Junior tournament.

However, general manager Doug Wilson and head coach Todd McLellan both think that this is a great opportunity for the young defenseman, who leads all rookies in blocked shots (38), and thus will let him play in the tournament.

Furthermore, the Sharks also carry eight defensemen on their roster at the moment, which makes this decision a bit easier on the team. In 24 games, Mirco Müller has scored three points (one goal, two assists). He will return to the Sharks at the end of his stint with the national team.
