National Hockey League

As several journalists from North America report, the Vancouver Canucks have put their defenseman/forward Yannick Weber on waivers. Will he find a new team within the next 24 hours?

Weber signed a one-year deal (one-way) with the Vancouver Canucks this summer but only got 10 starts so far. The last six games he all had to watch from the press box. By average, Weber only received about 5 minutes of ice time and had not ever really received a chance to prove himself in Vancouver.

Now the Canucks have put Weber on waivers, which means that any other NHL-team can make him an offer within 24 hours. The chances that this happens are intact, as he is not too expensive ($650,000 cap-hit) and has the reputation of being a versatile player.

Therefore, it might also be decided within the next 48 hours if Yannick Weber might even return to Switzerland prematurely. Several teams from the National League A, including Genève-Servette HC and SC Bern, are interested in signing the 25yr-old as of next season - if no NHL-team signs Weber, maybe he will return to Switzerland sooner than he thought.
