The 27-year-old goaltender finally arrived in Denver last night. He had not been able to join the Avalanche earlier, since he had been dealing with some visa issues.

However, looks like all the trouble Berra went through, was worth it. As The Denver Post reports, current back-up goaltender Jean-Sébastien Giguère is likely to retire at the end of this season. While the Candian is not discussing retirement at this time, he says that he is 'leaning' towards it.

Furthermore, Patrick Roy, the Avs' head coach, clearly wants Berra to stay and not test free agency in July: "We're presently working on signing him. Joe Sakic (Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations) and I would not have given up a second-round draft pick if we thought Berra would test free agency in summer."

However, Roy makes it clear that a healthy Jean-Sébastien Giguère will definitely remain the backup for starting netminder Semyon Varlamov for the rest of the season. Berra will mostly work with goaltending coach Francois Allair.

Reto Berra had been traded from the Calgary Flames to the Colodrado Avalanche on trade deadline day in exchange for a second-round draft pick in 2015.
